U.S. Army Awards

New in 2021, the U.S. Army presented two awards at the event. The U.S. Army was a 2021 Silver Sponsor.

  • U.S. Army MVP
  • U.S. Army Seven Core Values Volunteer Award

The MVP Award will recognize a participant who shows determination during the event and exemplifies the spirt of the Heartland Marathon and the U.S. Army.

The Volunteer Award will be presented to a volunteer who upholds the seven core values of the U.S. Army: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and courage.

U.S. Army MVP Award

2021 Recipient: Keith Baumert
An avid runner, Keith Baumert received the U.S. Army MVP Award in 2021. The Heartland Marathon was Keith's 100th marathon. When asked why he runs, he said: "The simple answer is, because I am able to, everything has to work right to be able to run and I feel blessed to be able to keep doing it." When he's not working or training, Keith helps out coaching the Skutt cross country and track teams, and spending time with his grandkids.

Mike and Maria are familiar faces at the Heartland Marathon. Longtime volunteers, the pair travel from Minnesota to Omaha to help make the event a success. They donate their time, talents and equipment to support the Heartland Marathon.
